Maria Elena's story

Maria Elena Z. O. is 32 years old. She lives with her life partner and her five children, who are from 4 years old to 14 years old. She is a member of the Juntos Venceremos Communidad communal bank. It is located in the Santa Deriana community, which belongs to the Chillanes canton. Most of the members grow rice, corn, oranges, and cocoa in its subtropical climate. It is their main source of income. She raises animals to increase the family income. She currently has five pigs and ten hens. She buys the animals in the city of Bucay when they are one month old. She raises the animals and sells them when they are fattened and grown. Raising pigs is a hard job. The daily cleaning and maintenance takes a lot of time. She is asking for the loan for food for the pigs. She wants to build a small house for the pigs and increase the quantity of pigs that she has. She wants to do this in order improve the family’s quality of life. When she is not working she like to collaborate on and participate in the community activities.
