The Las Flores group is in one of S. Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca’s affiliated communities. It is composed of 10 members who all need to contribute to the support of their families because they have small children and their main worry is to provide them an education while not ignoring basic household expenses either.

This is the reason that they have gone into chorizo making as a way to earn income. The funds from the Foundation were used to buy ingredients like: dried chili, salt, garlic, pepper, ground pork.

They also pay labor costs for the people that help them do the work, transportation costs to the city of Pinotepa Nacional to buy ingredients and transportation costs to nearby towns and to Acapulco, Guerrero, which is where they do their sales.

Gelasia Alberta S. goes to Acapulco once a week; she has the highest volume of chorizo sales; this activity generates economic income.

Luz Maria S. N. not only sells chorizo but she also manufactures beaded cotton blouses (Typical Costumes).

All of them stated that they will do everything in their reach to repay their loan on time so that they can continue to receive whatever help Fundación Realidad can offer.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
