Mrs. Deok P. is 34 years old and lives with another family member in Kompong Tom Province. Here she built a pigpen next to her house where she breeds many pigs. This is how she earns a living. Through this, she is able to raise and sell pigs at least two times per year. She has a partner in her husband, who always leaves home to work in the construction sector. The couple now has two kids who are enrolled in school. Deok P. is taking out her loan to buy more building accessories and will provide them to her husband to use for construction.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
