Ngwe's story

Ngwe P. is a widowed mother of five currently living in Ntaghem, Cameroon.

Ngwa is currently requesting her fourth loan from GHAPE. She has been with GHAPE since 2006 and has demonstrated a creditworthy character exemplified by her repayments, consistent attendance of meetings and the support of her borrowing group.

With this latest loan, Ngwe is hoping to continue the business practices supported by her prior loans. She has requested 300,000 XFA in order to purchase a few plantains, cocoa, chickens and seeds for groundnuts. The products will eventually be sold through the small market stand she currently manages in the main Bamenda market. Ngwe P. is confident that her business will succeed because her market stand is in a strategic position within the market. She also feels that her friendly approach towards her customers also makes a big difference.

Ngwe P. hopes to use the profits from her business to provide for the various needs of her family. As the sole provider for her family of five, she hopes to increase her profits in order to feed her family and have enough to pay for her children’s school fees.

Ngwe P.’s loan will be provided through the Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE), a non-profit NGO based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE works towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation through a highly multi-faceted approach. Every client is trained in business management, basic health, life skills, financial management, profits and losses, and family values. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement. GHAPE instills a sense of family and community within its clients and staff and has developed a strong bond of trust between the organization and its clients.
