A loan helped a member to buy an energy-efficient cookstove.

Thuhlo Group's story

‘Marets'epile is a 36-year-old woman who is married to a 44-year-old man. She has two children, ages 14 and 9. 'Marets'epile lives in a two-room house without electricity. She manages a salon in her village and her husband works in the mines in South Africa. 'Marets'epile is currently saving money for home improvements. In order to do her cooking, 'Marets'epile uses LPG and spends around 200 LSL each month. She also spends 100 LSL on paraffin, which is used for lighting and heating.

When she saw the ACE cookstove, 'Marets'epile immediately wanted to obtain one because she believes it will significantly reduce her fuel costs. The stove can also be used to heat her home and it has an LED lantern that provides light. In addition, she can cook using wood or cow dung that is readily available.

'Marets'epile and the other women in this group have kindly requested a loan from the Kiva lenders to pay for their own stoves.
