The Community Bank of San Juan D. Orcasitas is starting its fifth loan cycle with 19 members from the community of Orcasitas, which is located 30 minutes from the city of Ayacucho. The members have different businesses, including ones that sell general groceries, make bricks, raise small animals, and are involved in public transportation. Lourdes lives with her common-law husband, is 29 years old and has a store out of her home where she sells general groceries, which she does every day. Lourdes needs a loan of 900 soles, which she plans to invest in the purchase of rice and sugar. Meanwhile, Paulina is married and is 36 years old. Paulina and her husband together make a living making artisan bricks and sell them in the same place. She is requesting a loan of 600 soles, which she plans to use to purchase land. The members need different amounts of the loan, such as 300 soles, 600 soles, 750 soles and 900 soles, for a grand total of 11,700 soles for the community bank.
