A loan helped a member to buy broilers and feeds.

Chimondo Group's story

Doreen is a 35-year-old woman who resides at Mhondoro. She is a married mother of four children, all of whom attend school. Her husband is a farm worker.

Doreen used to sell clothes but switched into poultry, specializing in broilers. Her idea for the business was triggered by the increasing demands from her family that were not being met by her husband’s income alone. To contribute to the family's income, Doreen built a fowl-run with a capacity of 100 birds in her backyard.

Doreen's fowl-run was being underutilized due to limited capital, so she joined Thrive Microfinance. She used her portion of the loan to buy broilers and feeds for her business. The loan helped her utilize her fowl-run capacity.

She is excited because this is an opportunity for her to grow her business and be able to help to sustain her family.
