Jambo from Tanzania!

This is the Peace loan group from Dar es Salaam. Their group leader is Bilali A. (pictured in the center of the front row wearing a gray and black shirt between the woman in the blue dress and the woman in the green dress).

Bilali is a 42-year-old father of three. He is married and his children are 13, 11, and 7 years old. Bilali runs a "genge"-which is Swahili for a table-top fruit and vegetable stand. He has been in the business for three years, operating from 7 a.m. til 6:30 p.m. every day. He manages to make about 700,000 Tanzanian shillings per month in profit (~$525 USD). This will be Bilali's third loan from Tujijenge Tanzania, Ltd. He repaid his previous two loans on time and is excited to have his third loan.

Bilali will use this loan to increase the stock and range of his fruits and vegetables. He and the members of the Peace group thank you for your kind support!

About Tujijenge Tanzania

This loan is administered by Tujijenge Tanzania, which was founded in 2006. It has operations in Dar es Salaam, the coastal region, and the Lake Victoria region. The organization aims to reach out to micro entrepreneurs and provide them with financial and social intermediation services because capital is one of the major barriers to development and success for micro-enterprise initiatives in Tanzania.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
