A loan helped purchase 18 new solar panels helping my off-grid farm add more refrigeration to preserve organic fruit and vegetables for market and processing and show case both a larger, off grid, carport and roof array to inspire others!

David's story

Growing up in Indiana, son of a conventional corn farmer, I have always been involved in agriculture, in one way or another. When told, at 13, to chose between detasling corn or working in an orchard for summer work, I chose the later. I am still making that choice today. After traveling the country, visiting and working on small sustainable farms, I bought land in the hills of Tennessee.
Over the past 17 years I have developed a small Appalachian, Off Grid Homestead/ Farm, on 14 acres in East Tennessee. I now seek to expand. I hope to expand to more markets. This would be my third kiva loan to date. This loan would allow me to build on prior successes. Expansion into more markets with the increase of agricultural products is my goal. I hope to open my farm up to more visitors in the future and share what I have learned, with others.

This loan is special because:

This Kiva loan helps a repeat borrower buy and install new solar panels for his farm.
