Eliel's story

Eliel is a determined young man of 22. He is married to Nicida, age 20, with whom he has a 3-year old daughter. This young family lives in a humble home they own in the central mountains of Perú. Despite becoming a father at a very young age, Eliel knew he had to improve his life from the moment he saw his daughter because his family was relying on him. That's why for the last 3 years, with the help of his wife, he has planted potatoes, peas, gladiola flower and beans on land given to him by his father and also on leased land, to increase production. The couple is aware that they owe their livelihood to farming because it allows them to furnish their home and maintain an adequate quality of life. Although his daily work requires self-sacrifice, Eliel is happy because he will soon set up a store in town that his wife will attend to while also being able to care for their daughter, who starts school this year. But Eliel also wishes to complete the expansion of his potato processing factory in Lima city, that he has had to leave aside. He will also continue to increase the scale of his farming. This is his second loan from MFP and he is certain that he will repay it on time. He enjoys working with the members of his community bank because they are good people that are always quick to support one another. Eliel plans to invest the money he is requesting in the purchase of a bag of seeds for planting peas, organic and chemical fertilizers to speed up crop growth, and insecticide for pest control. The photo shows the land that Eliel will be farming.
