A loan of $10,000 helped me purchase equipment to recycle rainwater for irrigation, and other tools to implement no-till, intensive crop production in our Market Garden.

Peter's story

My name is Peter Elmore and I am the manager of Star Bright Farm, a young regenerative farm in White Hall, Maryland currently producing perennial herbs for use in naturally-made body care products. I grew up on this property and grew up understanding the importance of farming by working for my aunt and uncle on their organic farm, One Straw Farm. They own the adjacent 100 acre property, and rent 60 acres of my parents’ land to run their operation. After receiving a degree in sustainable agriculture and community entrepreneurship at the University of Vermont, I moved out west to work for a start up food distribution hub, connecting sustainably grown food to consumers and wholesale markets. I returned home to Maryland in 2017 and have been focusing my energy on making my vision for Star Bright Farm a reality!
My dream is to grow out this operation to 20 acres of diversified and holistically managed perennial, annual crop production, supplemented by rotationally grazed livestock. This production system will grow aromatic and medicinal fruit and herbs for the wellness industry. I am aiming to get our products to a responsible, regional level distribution throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

This loan is special because:

It helps a farmer acquire the necessary equipment to expand his regenerative farm.
