A loan of $200 helped to buy fertilizer.

Maura Katalina's story

Mrs. Maura Katalina C. O. is 57 and lives in the San Ignacio area. She is married and her husband is a farmer. They have 5 children: 4 are married adults who live on their own. The youngest lives with his parents helping them with household tasks and the farm. They have been growing pitahaya (dragon fruit), pineapple and bananas for the past 15 years. The main problem facing them has been the lack of capital to be able to improve the crops. Coupled with this last year the family had the tremendous misfortune of losing a son. This family tragedy led to a series of big expenses to cover. They had to manage these expenses with their savings that they were going to use to invest in the business. That is why they are asking for a loan-to take care of their crops with the purchase of fertilizers. This will improve their economic situation and help them repay the loan, and will generate the means for new family projects.
They have been a very humble and responsible family over the years-their community will confirm this.
