A loan helped a member to buy clothing and personal care products at the wholesale level to sell retail.

La Perla Group's story

Jaira, a 37-year-old married mother of 3 children (ages 7 to 18), is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “La Perla.” She has an elementary school education and, like all the ladies in her group, has the goal of seeing that all of her children go to school.

Jaira sells clothing and personal care products via catalog sales. She is requesting her 1st Kiva loan to buy more clothing and personal care products at the wholesale level. Jaira has planned and budgeted carefully and looks forward to increasing both customers and sales.

Jaira calls the monthly meetings to order, and the women make their loan payments. Then a Facilitator from Friendship Bridge engages them in educational sessions using games, role-playing, pictures, and diagrams. The ladies empower themselves as they acquire basic business tools, learn about health, hygiene, the use of medicinal plants, and nutrition. They also learn about self-esteem and women’s rights and roles. The useful combination of loans, education, and healthcare services is what Friendship Bridge calls “Microcredit Plus.”

In supplying capital for these much-appreciated loans, Kiva investors are held in high regard. Thank you for your generosity in funding their 1st Kiva loan!
