A loan of $425 helped to buy plants and flowers.

Otilia's story

Otilia, 55, is a member of the "Los Chankas" communal bank, which is in Lamas district, Lamas province, San Martín department. She is married and has 5 children, all of whom are independent. She has sold plants for 25 years. Her desire to get ahead in life and fulfill part of her dreams motivated her to start her own business whose profits would contribute to meeting household expenses. Today, she has regular customers who come by her house to buy plants from her; it is she, herself, who tends to the customer with her characteristic charisma. With this 1200 sol loan she will buy plants like: Llama plata (a popular ornamental plant; they're good luck plants believed to 'call the money'), roses, begonias, sun flowers, palm trees, among others. Part of the money will be used to buy insecticides, vitamins, natural fertilizers, special soils to improve her plant growth. Otilia has a lot of push to continue working and is very grateful to the Manuela Ramos Movement for helping women like her have opportunities to develop in their areas of interest.
