A loan of $900 helped to buy ingredients for her meals preparation.

Luz Elena's story

Luz Elena, 49, is a member of the "Los Chankas" communal bank, which is in Banda de Shilcayo district, San Martín province, San Martín department. She is single and has two dependent children. Luz Elena sells snacks like: juanes (grated and boiled yucca mixed with rice and either chicken or beef jerky wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed), little tamales, Chinese-style rice with chicken, in her city's central market. She has a well set-up area were her customers can enjoy her preparations daily. She is well-received. She tells us that she started out investing her own 200 soles. Now, she continues in the same line of work and she tells us that she does very well. With this 2500 sol loan she will buy ingredients for her dishes like: sacks of rice and sugar, kilos of chicken, crates of eggs, cooking oil by the dozen as well as some kitchen utensils to provide better customer service. She feels good to continue selling snacks and is grateful to the Manuela Ramos Movement for contributing to the fulfillment of her dreams and to reaching her goals.
