A loan of $725 helped for home improvements and to improve her crop yields.

Yeni's story

Yeni, 37, is a hard-working, enterprising woman, who lives in her own home with her three children: Samy, 20, Yorsi, 16 and Max, 6. She is married but does not live with her husband because he has to work in another city. For the last 8 years she has been in construction work, demonstrating that she is not afraid to heavy lifting and she is in no way a member of the “weaker” sex. In addition, with her sons’ help, she farms bananas, coffee, and citrus fruits in her fertile farmlands. Yeni’s daily routine starts at 4am preparing the meals that her children will have for breakfast and lunch so that they can concentrate on studying in peace. Then, she cleans her house and gets ready to head to the fields to turn the soil with her hand shovel. Yeni enjoys every aspect of her work because, since she was a little girl, her parents taught her not to fear heavy work and that women have the same capabilities as men. For this reason, her work as a laborer is very respected and admired because she never says: “I can’t;” on the contrary, she helps her fellow workers. Her work is very profitable because she earns a wage that is enough for her basic needs and provides an adequate quality of life for her children. As she is an enterprising woman, she is thinking of buying large plots of farmland to plant larger amounts; she also would like to set up a grocery store in the city. This is her sixth loan with MFP and, as usual, she will repay it on time so that she can have access to future loans because these loans represent for her an opportunity to grow economically and live in peace. The funds she is requesting now will be used to buy building supplies with which to finish her house and give it the finishing touches that represent comfort; she will also invest in her farmlands.
