A loan of $375 helped to buy beauty products and nutritional food items.

Sonia's story

Sonia, 41, is a pleasant woman, who lives in her own home with her son, Jack, 18. She has always been independent so she wasn’t much bothered by her separation from her husband; her aim in life has always been to get ahead. She has been a public servant for the last 22 years (she works for a government entity) in a very large province. She likes to be in permanent contact with people so, for the last 5 years, she has sold beauty products as well as some food items. Besides, she’s also a farmer; she has banana, avocado and corn crops. For this last activity, she gets help from her parents who consider Sonia a “Jack-of-all-trades” because she is so active. At her age, she feels that her office work is all-consuming and the pressure and demands made on her sometimes are uncomfortable. Because of this, her greatest wish is to be able to live in the countryside since farming provides her with the tranquility she needs. Her activities are quite profitable and, thanks to them, she is able to meet her family’s main needs. For the future, she would like to be a star saleswoman of the products she offers and consumes as well as increasing her farming output. This is her fourth loan request to MFP and she is very happy. She also states that she enjoys working with her communal bank because the members are exacting, responsible, and follow the by-laws well, as it should be, always respectful of others. The funding she is requesting now will be used to buy beauty and nutritional products that are currently offered at discounted prices.
