A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid maize seeds and fertilizer as well as a solar light.

Ruth's Group's story

Ruth is sixty years old and has eight children. She has been a farmer for more than twenty years and is often referred to as a very resourceful person. She is also the leader of a group of nine farmers in Webuye District, Kenya requesting a loan.

Ruth isn’t new to One Acre Fund; she actually joined the program in 2015. She has since noticed her life has changed, especially in the sense that she has subsequently gained a lot of respect in her community. This year Ruth will not only get fertilizer and maize seeds as part of her loan but will also buy a solar light. She is very excited about this addition, as now she will be able to light her home at night.

Using this loan, Ruth's group will purchase a total of nine solar lights and use the farming inputs received to plant a total of three acres.

In this group: Ruth, Joseph, Grace, Celestine, Leonard , Joyce, Jonathan, Eunice, Isaac

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
