Mairam's story

S. Mairam is 64 years old and is married with two adult children. Her daughter is married and has her own family while her son is currently working in the Russian Federation.

Mairam sells fabrics for sewing the national dresses and has been in this business almost for fifteen years. She has very good taste and she is ready to advise her clients which textile to choose for this or that occasion. That is why she has her constant customers.

Mairam dreams of opening another vending place so that her son can earn money in their motherland around his family. For this reason she asks for a loan of $2,500 USD. Tajikistan is known for its rich history, which includes a key post along the Silk Road and the end of Alexander the Great's rule. While the people of Tajikistan are working to improve its agricultural production and manufacturing sector, nearly two-thirds of the population still live in abject poverty.
