A loan helped to purchase a minibus.

Samah's story

Samah, aged 38, lives in Jabel Mukaber in Jerusalem, with her husband (on a NIS 5,000 per month salary) and their four school-age children.

After a break from work to focus on raising her family, in 2016 she saw a need for a minibus service for schoolchildren and a passenger service for women in and around Jerusalem who would prefer a female driver. She therefore obtained a licence to drive up to 16 passengers. She has been providing this service since then with a vehicle that can take seven passengers, ferrying women and children to hospital, to the shops, etc., as well as doing a school run.

She would now like to obtain a minibus. A minibus with 20 places would cost some NIS 40,000, of which she can pay NIS 13,000 from her own savings, and she would get NIS 9,000 from selling her existing vehicle. Hence, she seeks a loan for NIS 18,000 to make up the difference. Samah has received business training from MATI (the training partner of the Jerusalem Interest-free Microfinance Fund). Samah aims to offer her services to more women and children with the larger vehicle, and thereby contribute more significantly to her household’s finance.
