Justine's story

A. Justine was born in 1959 in Abomey, a historic city in Benin. Justine has lived in Towéta in Cotonou, economic capital of Benin, for four years. She is a widow with five children, three of whom are dependent. Only some of the children go to school. Justine lives on her own with her children and pays the family expenses by herself. Justine has never been to school.

Justine sells gasoline, a business which she has run for ten years and which allows her to pay her family expenses. Justine gets her supplies at the Gbégamey market in Cotonou; however, she sells in her neighborhood. Justine has received two loans from ALIDé, loans which she repaid despite the death of one of her children during the term of the second loan. The number of Justine's customers grows daily, and Justine is not able to satisfy them because her financial means are limited. This is the reason Justine is seeking a third loan, in order to build her business.
