A loan of $500 helped to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, to enable a single mom with a good credit history to grow more crops and to create hope for her this season.

Naomy's story

Dear Kiva Community,

Naomy is a hardworking single mom from a remote village in the Bomet area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her family a good start by providing them with a good quality life.

Naomy has a farm where she grows different crops and raises livestock; she also earns some income from a personal business.

The Bomet area is a favorable one for farming, so she is seeking a loan of 50,000 Kenyan shillings (KES) through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits and expand her business.

Being a poor woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Naomy's remote village, is very challenging, but she feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and to secure her family’s future.

She is a borrower who has a good credit history and is worth supporting.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
