A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, as well as two solar lights.

Scovia's Group's story

Scovia's Group is formed by 15 farmers in Teso District and is being represented by Scovia, who is the group leader pictured above. She is 34 years old and has 7 children. Scovia has been a farmer for 15 years and is often referred to as a very hardworking individual.

Scovia isn’t new to One Acre Fund, she actually joined the program in 2016 and has since noticed her life has changed; especially in the sense that she has been able to consistently feed her family ever since. This year, Scovia will not only get fertilizer and maize seeds as part of her loan, but will also purchase two solar lights. She is very excited about this addition since now she will be able to have light during the night and have somewhere to charge her phone.

Using this loan, Scovia's Group will purchase a total of 7 solar lights and use the farming inputs received to plant a total of 7.5 acres.

In this group: Scovia, Lazaro, Morris, Daniel, Aron, Marsella, Janerose, Selina, Bramwel, Gladys, Jane, Jonathan, Titus, Nancy, Benard

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
