A loan helped a member to purchase hybrid seeds and fertilizer for the cultivation of maize, as well as a solar light.

Josephine's Group's story

Josephine's Group is composed of six farmers in Teso District and is being represented by Josephine, who is the group leader pictured above. This 49-year-old mother of five has been a farmer for more than 20 years and is often referred to as a very resourceful person.

Josephine isn’t new to One Acre Fund, having joined the program in 2017; she has since noticed her life has changed in that she has been able to consistently feed her family.

This year, Josephine will not only get fertilizer and maize seeds as part of her loan, but will also purchase a solar light. She is very excited about this addition since her children will now be able to study at night.

Using this loan, Josephine's Group will purchase a total of five solar lights and use the farming inputs received to plant a total of 2.5 acres.

In this group: Josephine, Fidelis, Doreen, Everlyne, Lydia, Wilfrida

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
