A loan helped to pay children's school fees for a higher quality education and good jobs in the future.

Usman's story

Usman is a Babban Gona maize farmer living in a remote village in the northern Nigerian state of Kaduna.

As part of his harvest services loan package, Usman will get crucial harvest support including renting a threshing machine, which will eliminate the common practice of using family labor. This will save his family 30 hours of manual labor per 100 kg bag of maize, which will leave more time for studying and learning, and increase literacy rates. Usman hopes that his three children will be doctors in the future.

Through this loan, known as a Harvest Advance Loan, Usman will receive a cash advance, equal to the price of maize at harvest, that allows him to meet the costs of pressing needs while Babban Gona stores his corn to sell in the future at a better price, for up to 40 percent higher than the market price. With his family’s increased income, Usman will be able to pay school fees for a higher quality education.

This loan is special because:

It gives farmers flexibility to sell their crops for the best price.
