A loan of $300 helped to buy farm supplies.

Estelbina's story

Estelbina B. A., 48, lives in the San Ignacio settlement. Her neighbors are, for the most part, humble people dedicated to farming. She is married and her husband is employed as a security guard thus helping her with household expenses. For the last 12 years they have farmed pitahaya (dragon fruit). The greatest difficulty they have faced in the past has been the unwillingness of financial institutions to help farmers. They started in this line of work thanks to the mutual help they gave each other. For the future, she is planning to undertake soil conservation projects because they have had trouble with the soil. For this, they need an injection of capital to buy agricultural supplies, like chemical fertilizers and fungicides, to guarantee a good crop and to bring better ingredients that will help them stabalize economically.
