Mrs. Ton Y. was born in 1968 and has been married many years to Mr. Bunheang, age 49. He is a taxi driver and a construction employee. This couple has five kids. Three of the children are no longer in school and work as waiters for wedding parties while the remaining two attend school. Ton Y. is an internal employee for a non-government organization and has been doing this occupation for years. Ton Y. and her family faced difficulties with their electricity line use because their house is far from the electricity system. Due to that, Ton Y. decided to seek a loan to buy a generator to supply electricity for her family’s needs.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
