A loan helped to buy farming inputs, such as certified seeds and fertilizer, to expand her horticulture farm.

Mercy's story

Mercy is characterized by her sense of responsibility, her independence and her great desire to achieve. She works hard and perseveres because she wants a great future for her children.

Mercy and her husband are both farmers. She works on the farm while her husband is the marketer of their produce.

Mercy is seeking a loan of 50,000 KES that she will use to buy certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizer to expand her horticulture farm. By scaling up her business, she will reduce production costs and increase output.

Mercy's strategy is to use the returns from the investment to pay for more farm inputs (a lack of which is a major problem that leads to the closing down of many farms due to poor quantity and quality of yields.) By using this strategy, she will be able to increase her profits. This will improve her standard of living, as well as that of her beautiful children.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
