Sonia's story

Our member Sonia is 30 years old, is married and has four kids. All of her kids depend on her: José Carlos is 9 years old, Rosmery is 6, Lizandro is 4 and Yuliana is 2. All of them are in school. Sonia is from the city of Urubamba in the department of Cusco and she belongs to the JOSE CARLOS MARIATEGUI Village Bank, part of the Arariwa Association. She has to get up early to do her household chores such as making breakfast and lunch for her husband and children. Then she goes to the Sidrachayoc market at 6 in the morning to sell fruit until 5 in the afternoon. She has been in business for two years and things are going well thanks to her determination. She tells us that Mondays and Thursdays she travels to the city of Quillabamba to bring back fruit. She needs the loan to buy more fruit such as bananas, papayas and many others.

She is very greatful for the opportunity given her by this program and she is committed to pay back the loan on time.

The city of Urubamba is 78 km from the city of Cusco, approximately an hour and a half away. The city of Urubamba is found in the heart of the Valle Sagrado. In the pre-hispanic era, it was a very important center of agriculture.
