A loan helped a member to buy more skirts and blouses.

Bonus's Group's story

Bonus's group is comprised of two hard-working women. Bonus is 19 years old and lives in the town of Mbarara in the Mbarara region of Uganda. She is single and has one child. For the past two years, Bonus has been working hard to manage her clothing business, which sells clothes, such as skirts and blouses.

To help expand her business, Bonus has requested a share of 1,800,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more skirts and blouses, and will help Bonus to generate greater profits.

Since Bonus is a single mom, she will use the profits of the business to look after her child, provide necessities for herself and her child, pay their school fees, and pay house bills. She will also provide basic needs for her family, like food, thereby improving their standard of living.

Bonus hopes that in the future she will be able to open up a bigger clothing store in order to generate more income.

Bonus is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities.
