A loan of $450 helped buy 20 loads of firewood and twenty 50-litre drums of "sodabi".

H. Akouavi Bernadette's story

H. Akouavi Bernadette Z. was born in 1953 in Allada, Benin's Atlantic community. Akouavi Bernadette has been living in the Dodomey area of Allada for the past 15 years. She is married to Paul AGUENON, and mother of two. Akouavi Bernadette has another child under her care, in addition to her own children. Only some of her children are educated. The couple share household expenses. Akouavi Bernadette has not attended school.

To assist her husband with the household expenses, Akouavi Bernadette sells firewood from her home. As a secondary business, she also sells "sodabi" (a local alcoholic beverage). Akouavi Bernadette has been performing these activities for the past 30 years. She gets her supplies from the villages of Allada.

Akouavi Bernadette has already been granted two loans by ALIDé, which she has fully reimbursed. With the view of increasing her activity and putting money aside for her children's education, she is requesting a third loan from ALIDé. In the future, Akouavi Bernadette considers building her own home.
