Estefana's story

Estefana was born on November 28, 1955, in Villa de Chiantla, Guatemala. She is now 54 years old, and a widow. Her four children are grown and do not live with her. She has been a business woman for 15 years, having begun by selling tortillas, then growing her clientele because of her strong customer service. With her earnings and the help of her husband, she was able to pick up a plot of land. Estefana is also a seamstress (suits, dresses, pants, etc.). She operates her store, known as "Tienda Buenos Aires," out of her home, located in the Villa Lobos 2 section of Villa Nueva. She sells soft drinks, bottled water, and groceries. When sales are down, she sells food and makes clothing. Her goal is to have some working capital. Her dream is to finish building her house. Estefana is very grateful to FAPE, an organization that has given her moral and financial support to improve her life. She has worked with FAPE for 2 years, and has paid off three loans. She now needs another loan to buy Christmas merchandise, since sales are up during the season.
