A loan of $525 helped buy fertilizer and insecticide.

Artemia's story

Artemia is a likeable 57 year old woman. She shares her days with the love of her life, 62 year old Lucio. They have eight children, but only three of the children live with them. Nilton is 30, Adrián is 18, and Ricardo is 14. In spite of her age and her delicate appearance, this woman is a fighter. She still puts forth a lot of effort working because she says, “This is the part of the country where the idle do not survive”. She has been planting potatoes and “olluco” (Peruvian tuber) since she was very young. She learned from her parents, and she has worked in agriculture her whole life. That is how she has helped her husband, who also farms. They do it to get their children ahead because this is the biggest worry they both have. Artemia’s day starts at five in the morning when she gets up to take care of her family. One hour later she goes to the farm where she not only watches over the crops at her husband’s siD., but she also takes care of their animals. They have sheep. Artemia likes doing both activities because they are peaceful and profitable. Even though she lost part of her harvest in previous years, the years and the experience have given her the necessary tools to learn the techniques to produce quantity and quality. This is the sixth time she has had a loan with MFP. She is very satisfied with what she has achieved so far. That is why she promises, one more time, to make each one of her payments. She will use the money she is asking for to buy compost, fertilizers, and insecticides, which will help her improve and prepare her land for the next harvest.
