Vanesa's story

Vanesa was born in Urcos, province of Quispicanchis, district of Cusco and she’s a member of the Community Bank “Qori Orcco” part of the Arariwa Association. The name of the bank is in the Quechua language and it means “Golden Hills”. Cusco was the capital city of the Inca Empire and one of the most important cities of the Peruvian Viceroyalty. It has been declared Patrimony of Humanity and the Archaeological Capital of the Americas.

Vanesa is 26 years old. She’s married and has a 1-year-old daughter named Camila. She divides her time between her household activities and her minimarket where she has a stationary stand, a grocery shop, an Internet café and beauty items stand. She opened her business 6 years ago, and she’s been very successful thanks to her had work. She’s a working mother and an entrepreneur supporting her family. She’s the community bank's supervisor and she's been a member of Arariwa for eight years. She would like to use this loan to buy Christmas presents to resell during the holiday season.

She’s very thankful for this opportunity and she promises to fulfill her payments according to schedule.

The city of Urcos is located at 45 km (28 miles) from Cusco, following the asphalted road to Puno. It’s a small town with a beautiful lagoon, where, according to the legend Huascar threw a huge golden chain to prevent the Spanish settlers to take it away.
