Gloria's story

Gloria E. is from the village of Tablon, Digkila-an, Iligan City. She is 54 years old, married, and has six adult-aged children. To make a living, Gloria owns and operates a business venture in the retail sector running a sari-sari (variety) store. The main source of income for the business comes from selling both food and daily use products in the local community. Gloria has been engaged in her business for over ten years and earns approximately 10,000 PHP a month from these activities.

In 2006, Gloria joined Kiva partner HSPFI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. She has successfully repaid a previous loan of 18,000 PHP from HSPFI. This loan was used to purchase additional products to sell. Gloria is requesting a new loan of 21,000 PHP, which will be used to invest in expanding the business. This loan will be her tenth from HSPFI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated to improve and expand her business.

HSPFI is one of the accredited partners of Opportunity International in the Philippines. It is based in Cagayan de Oro City and is reaching out to the poor households of Northern Mindanao.
