Caroline's story

Caroline T. was born on the 27th of May, 1970, in Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. Caroline has lived in the Zogbohouè quarter for around ten years. She is married to Olivier Dansou, an architect, with whom she has four children – all are school-educated. Caroline lives with her children and her husband, who looks after most of the family’s needs.
However, Caroline assists her husband with her children’s schooling and maintenance with the money that she earns from her business.
Caroline attended school up to secondary level, after which she learned the skill of dressmaking which she has now practised for around 17 years. In addition to this, Caroline sells fabric from her home studio. She sources her goods from Lomé in the Togo, Benin’s neighbouring State, and also at Dantokpa, Benin’s international market. Caroline is an existing client of ALIDé, having already received and successfully repaid three loans from the organisation. She is requesting a fourth loan from ALIDé in order to replace her heavily worn sewing machines, so that she may better satisfy the demands of her customers.
