A loan of $1,050 helped to buy fertilizers and guinea pigs.

Concepción's story

Concepción, 65, lives with his wife, Antonia, 67. He has 4 adult children that no longer live with him; each has their own family. His work days pass peacefully because he is a farmer. His work routine begins with him preparing the soil with fertilizers and sowing seeds. He farms potatoes, peas and corn. He learned to farm as a little boy. Although he never knew who his parents were, he grew up among working people that showed him how to work to get ahead in life. Concepción loves farming because it is the line of work that allowed him to see his children get ahead in life and it is what most of the men that live in this area of Perú have learned to do. Besides, he considers it profitable because the quality of the potato, corn and peas that he grows allows him to sell them at good prices. In addition, he also raises a good breed of guinea pigs. He began this activity because one of his daughters gave his a pair as a gift and he saw a good opportunity to make extra income breeding them. In the future, Concepción intends to increase his potato crop and to have a guinea pig farm. This is his third loan with MFP and he is sure that he will be responsible, as always, with each payment. Besides, he is very satisfied with his communal bank's work because they are all trustworthy people. Concepción has already decided that the funds will be used to buy both chemical and natural fertilizers; he will also buy a few guinea pigs to continue with his farm.
