A loan helped to expand her business by buying more material to make bags, including beads to make beaded bags.

Salome's story

Salome is twenty years old and lives with her parents in the Ilala district in Tanzania. She runs her own business selling women’s handbags. Salome is requesting a Kiva loan to expand her business by buying more material to make bags, including beads to make beaded bags. She plans to use the profit she earns to repay the loan and improve her business. Salome will repay the ‘social interest’ on her loan by volunteering 2.5 hours per week as a Camfed Learner Guide, following up on students who are at risk of dropping out of school, to find out why they are missing school and to link them with the help they need to stay in school.

This loan is special because:

It empowers young women to be entrepreneurs and leaders.
