Lina Almeida's story

Lina Almeida M. was born in the city of Maputo, in the province of Maputo. She is 44 years old, separated from her husband, and the mother of 5 children who are 27, 25, 21, 19 and 13 years old. All of her children are still in school. Lina completed 10th grade but did not continue due to a lack of resources. She lives in a house she inherited from the pastors of the Nazarene Church. She lives with her children and 2 grand-children whom she also supports.
She left Maputo with her parents to move to the neighboring country of Swaziland. She returned in 1980 after meeting her husband and later she started her business [a general store]. Today she has one employee and works about 10 hours per day. She has been the owner of this business for more than 21 years and earns about 15.000.00mt per month that pays for household expenses and allows her to save some in her bank account. She had previously been a loan client of the TCHUMA organization, but stopped due to several dissatisfactions. She heard about Hluvuku through friends who are also loan clients. This is her second loan, for 20.000.00mt that she will use to buy products (peanuts, beans, oil and others) to increase and diversify her merchandise in order to satisfy her clientele. Her previous loan was for 14.500.00mt that she used for the same purpose. In the future she would like to apply for more loans to expand her business .
