A loan of $275 helped to buy more sacks of charcoal.

Maimuna Guyo's story

Maimuna Guyo A. is married and has six children. For the last two months she has sold charcoal to the soldiers at Barracks military camp near Thika, a market town forty kilometers from Nairobi. Self-described as patient and jovial, Maimuna also sees herself as a hardworking and persevering woman.

While Maimuna will use the proceeds of a 20,000 KES loan to buy more charcoal, the real challenge to Maimuna’s business is the lack of a bigger vehicle to carry more sacks to the camp. Maimuna’s greater goal is to start a new business selling home products such as cooking pots.
