Gina's Group's story

Gina S. is from the village of Zone 3. She is 39 years old and the group leader of a 5-member ASKI loan group. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are all collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is Gina S..

Gina is married and has three adult children. Gina has operated a general store as her main source of income for over ten years. Her business generates approximately 5,000 PHP a month.



In 2009, Gina joined ASKI to access their financial services and an effort to help improve her living situation and her ability to engage in business activities. Gina is requesting a new loan of 5000 PHP to purchase additional products to sell. This loan will be her first ASKI loan. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve/expand her business.

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 25 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly of farmers, fisherfolks and small entrepreneurs.
