A loan of $3,825 helped a member operational Capital.

El Porvenir Group's story

The communal bank “EL PORVENIR“ is on their 4th loan cycle and consists of 12 women. They all live in the Barrio and have different businesses. They meet in the house of President Mrs. Mairene. The businesses of the members are diverse. For example, Mrs. Mairene sells food in her home. Mrs. Maribel lives next door to the house where the meetings are held and she receives a pension. Another woman sells empanadas and drinks while others sell food as well as clothes and cosmetics. The members mention that there is a lot of competition to get this loan, but they make a difference in that Kiva partner Agrocapital works transparently, and provides advantages and access to this credit. Generally, the members say that the loan they are taking out is for their businesses and to increase their capital. This way, they can grow their businesses. The majority of the members have experience with communal banking since they worked in other financial institutions. They have good credit history and comply with the requirements of the Institution.
