A loan helped to buy more tissue, soap, drinks, rice, red oil, onions, and other items to sell.

Esther's story

Esther is a 50 year old business woman. She is single with 4 children. The ages of her children are 17 through 22. One of her children is presently attending school while living at home. She runs a business which sells tissue, soap, drinks, rice, red oil, onions, and other general market items. She has been running this business for 20 years. She has had no problems with her business. In order to expand the business, she has asked for a loan from BRAC Liberia. The loan will be used to buy more tissue, soap, drinks, rice, red oil, onions, and other items to sell and increase the business. She describes herself as a hard working business woman that sells 15 hours per day and 6 day a week. She learned the trade from her mother and started selling with her own savings. She likes her business because sales are good with more profits. She transports her goods by car to her business site. In the future, she would like to build a house. She says thanks for your support.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
