A loan of $525 helped to buy compost and fertilizers.

Madelaine's story

With the beautiful sunrise of the Peruvian highlands, Madelaine wakes up each day. She is a hardworking 45-year old woman. She lives with her husband, Teodoro, who is 45, and her three children: Aderlin (18), Mayumi (14) and Américo (12).

She formed her family with a single conviction: to get ahead. This is why she works without pause every day with her husband at her side. Together they cultivate potatoes, peas and corn. Every day it is a constant struggle to care for the land, due to climate changes in the area that are unexpected, but even so they have pushed ahead with dedication, knowing that the earth takes a lot of care in order to produce in large quantities. In addition, Madelaine likes to work because she learned from her parents and now she teaches her children the agricultural techniques, so that in the future they can fend for themselves and manage to advance themselves economically. In addition to cultivating the land, she raises cattle and pigs that she has to keep watch over in order to be able to market them without problems. This activity permits her to obtain additional earnings.

Madelaine is an enterprising woman who always takes on new challenges; she is thinking of opening a grocery store in the future, since there are none in the area where she lives and the villagers have to walk a long way to get supplies from the nearest store.

This is the third loan that Madelaine has taken with MFP and she tells us that she is always on time with every one of her payments. In addition, she is very pleased with the work of her communal bank because it is composed of people who are very reliable. The money that she requests now will be invested in the purchase of compost, fertilizers and insecticides for the care of the land so that she does not have problems in the future.
