A loan helped to buy a biodigester to turn her farm waste into resources to expand her milk and meat production.

Ines's story

Ines is a dairy farmer who calls Acatlan home. Ines has three children; her goal is to increase her income from her farm to have savings for her children. She will do this by transforming her cow and pig’s waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer to save money and improve the productivity of her farm.

Ines is investing in a Sistema Biobolsa biodigester to treat her animals' manure, removing flies and bad smells while avoiding the contamination of underground water sources. She will replace the expensive LP gas with clean and renewable energy (biogas) and eliminate chemical fertilizers, thereby saving money and displacing fossil fuels-based inputs.

At the same time, the yield of her corn field will improve naturally as she starts applying the organic fertilizer, nourishing the soil in a sustainable manner. This loan represents 60% of the price of the biodigester; the remaining part is paid directly by Ines.

This loan is special because:

It saves farmers money by transforming waste into biogas and organic fertilizer.
