Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $675 helped to buy material to make varnishes and dyes.

George Kamau's story

George Kamau K. runs the Soi Paints store. He sells varnish, paint and spirits to carpenters in his locality. He has been in this business for the last fourteen years. His business is located at Githurai, a semi-urban town within the outskirts of Nairobi.

George does not have enough money to buy materials for making paints and varnish, so he is using his loan of KES 50,000 to buy the materials to make varnish and dyes. His goal in life is to be the main supplier of paints in the area.

He is married and has three children ranging from one year to seventeen years old. He describes himself as hard-working, friendly and a dedicated father.
