Aurora's story

Aurora, 70, is a widow and the mother of 7 children, all of whom are now independent. She is a member of the "Mujeres Creativas" communal bank which is in Moyobamba district, Moyobamba province, San Martín department. Aurora has been a vegetable merchant for 35 years. She works in a well-equipped stall located in her district's central market. Her daily sales have allowed her to improve her business and increase her products. With this 800 sol loan she will buy regional vegetables like: lettuces, carrots, spearmint, avocado, onions by the kilogram and bananas by the bunch to meet her customers' needs. Aurorita, as she is affectionately called, is very proud of the work she does daily. The good product she sells has created a regular customer base for her that buys from her every day. Despite her age she feels strong to continue working and is grateful to the Manuela Ramos Movement for the unconditional support it gives women like her who want to get ahead and enjoy their own incomes.
