Penh S., 46, is married and the good mother of four children - one married and three single. Penh S. owns various fishing materials which she and her husband use to fish in and around Tunle Sap River, where they can generate $6 of income each day. Penh S. has been depending on this activity for more than nine years. She hopes to accumulate more fishing tools and is requesting a loan of $500 to purchase them. With the remainder of the loan, she will update the size of the kitchen of her existing house.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
