Debbie's Group's story

Debbie B. is from the village of Burgos. She is 52 years old. Debbie is the leader of a 8-member loan group sponsored by ASKI. Although each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. The official name of this borrowing group is "Caliguian Center."

Debbie is married and has 3 school-aged children. To make a living, Debbie owns and operates a general store where she sells a variety of products in the local community. Debbie has been engaged in her business for over 13 years and earns approximately 6,000 PHP a month from these activities.

In 2006, Debbie joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Debbie has successfully repaid a previous loan of 10,000 PHP from ASKI. She used her previous loan to buy products to sell. Debbie is requesting a new loan of 15000 PHP to buy products to sell. This will be Debbie's 7th loan from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve/expand her business.

About ASKI:

ASKI is one of the most successful microfinance institutions in the Philippines. It has 25 branches covering the Central and Northeastern areas. Its clients are mostly of farmers, fisherfolks and small entrepreneurs.
