A loan of $575 helped a member purchase of various items.

Benkan Group's story

The members of the Benkan group are married women with an average age of 40 years and on average 2 children. With their husband and children they live in large traditional families and reside in the village of MARKA COUNKO, sous-prefecture of FANA, in the region of KOULIKORO, Republic of Mali.

They met each other through neighborhood and kinship links. They have been selling various items for quite some time.

These women work in collaboration with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to perpetuate their money-making activity. This is their second group loan and the previous loan was fully reimbursed.

With this loan they wish to buy large quantities of smoked fish and various items such as clothing, and basic need products. The smoked fish is bought wholesale in Mopti, the clothing and other articles in Burkina and in Bamako. They resell everything on the market place in MARKA COUNKO to customers who are women and men.

They are planning to each make an average monthly profit of 35, 000 FCFA. The profits are reinvested in part in their activity and the other part goes to the daily family expenses.
